Flames on the Water Tears in the SeaCon Aroney
20th Century, the destruction of a beautiful city, the massacre of hundreds of thousands of its citizens and the displacement of millions of people. For centuries Smyrna had been a prosperous trading city on the shores of the Mediterranean, with many cultures living side by side, but division of the territorial spoils of World War I had terrible consequences. The battles leading up to the destruction of Smyrna, the great fire, the evacuation and the aftermath described in this book are closely based on the actual events, although the specific military and social actions of some of the characters are in part fictionalised.

The Lace TableclothAnastasia Gessa-Liveriadis
They came in their tens of thousands and stayed to make Australia their own. What did the leave behind? What did they face? The author vividly describes a sensitive young Greek girl’s life with all the usual insecurities and confusion exacerbated by the German occupation of Greece and the civil war. The bleak conditions she confronts with her eventual migration (under bizarre circumstances) to Australia further aggravate the state of affairs. The Lace Tablecloth is a hymn to the freedom that can come about by dissociating ourselves from much of what we are taught as children, from reappraising our concept of reality, and from making certain life choices. It is also a tribute to the indomitable human spirit which can overcome unimaginable difficulties to enable one to grow, become productive, and embrace life with love and enthusiasm.
This is a well-inspired and pleasingly narrated novel unfolded in 17 Chapters; most of the set narrating stages are being build up in the war and tragedy-stricken Greece (ten chapters), two aboard Italian steamship Aurelia and five in Australia. The main narration of the novel, 15 Chapters, is being unfolded within a time of approximately 14 years (1940-1952). The author uses two main narrative approaches, one via the mind and conscience/sub-conscience of her protagonist, Tasia, and one direct as the compiling author.
