A ‘Call for Entries’ for the 8th Antipodean Palette Art Exhibition this year proved extremely successful attracting an eclectic group of local, regional, established and emerging Greek Australian artists. Various mediums of artwork will be on exhibition such as painting, photography, mixed media, sculpture, 3D installation, monotype, lithograph prints and heritage jewellery. The seven-day event will also include a poetry afternoon and a life-drawing workshop inviting audience participation.
Artists exhibiting this year are: Emmy Mavroidis, Heidi Seraphim, Helene Athanasiadis, Kyriaki Theodorikakos, James Pasakos, Jim Pavlidis, Luke Spiliopoulos, Nelly Skoufatoglou, Nick Athanasiou, Olga Tsara, Panos Apostoulou, Rolando Garay-Matziaris, Sofronis Michaelides, Stella Tsirkas and Theo Papathomas.
In past years, this event has been very successful and attracted hundreds of people to the gallery. In 2013 the Exhibition was officially opened by the Victorian Minister for the Arts, The Hon. Heidi Victoria. In 2015 it was by the Minister for Creative Industries, The Hon. Martin Foley, MP. This year we are proud to announce the official opening of the 8th Annual Antipodean Palette Art Exhibition will be launched by Mr Michael van Vliet, Chairperson of Multicultural Arts of Victoria.
The Antipodean Palette Art Exhibition will be held at Steps Gallery, 62 Lygon Street Carlton from August 3 – 9, 2018.
Open weekdays between 11:00am – 6:30pm & weekends between 11:00am – 4:00pm.

- Open to all emerging and practicing artists actively involved in art or design
- Interested artists must complete the online entry form, available through the GACL website.
- The entry form must be accompanied by an artist statement, not exceeding 200 words and digital images representing all work to be exhibited. Images are to be JPEG or PNG files no larger than 10MB.
- The GACL reserves the right to reject any entry deemed unsuitable. Decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- The GACL will undertake some expenses associated with organizing the event. Each artist will also be asked to contribute a $70 participation fee to assist with expenses in gallery hire and all promotional and catering costs.
- Work must be original and not previously entered in an ‘Antipodean Palette’ event.
- The number of entries per artist is determined on allocated space. Each artist will be allowed up to 2.5 linear meters of wall space on which to exhibit their work. The wall height from floor to ceiling is approximately 2.3 meters. No less than 30 cm of free space must be allowed between artworks.
- Artists are encouraged to offer their work for sale. A reasonable price must be set to promote sale. The GACL will retain a 15% commission per sale.
- All work must be clearly labeled at the back with name of the artist, title, medium used and price for sale. Work must be ready to hang with D rings and hanging wire. Three dimensional work such as pottery, sculpture, or other 3D work, must have an appropriate base or table on which to be displayed and the artist will be responsible for the setup of that display.
- The GACL will exercise reasonable care in handling artwork but will not accept responsibility for any damage or loss.
- Artists are responsible for the delivery, installation, dismounting and collection of their work. All Artwork must be delivered to the Gallery on Thursday 2nd August between 10am to 2pm and must remain in the Gallery throughout the duration of the exhibition.
- All work must be collected from the Gallery on the final day of the exhibition, Thursday 9th August between 4pm to 6.30pm.
- Each artist will be required to register for gallery duty for at least twice during the duration of the event, or have a representative take their place. Selected artists will be required to nominate their preferred shift times, selecting either am, pm or both. Each shift is approximately 3hrs duration.
- By signing the entry form, the artist gives permission for the GACL to take photos and video of the artists and their artwork, including artist statements, for publicity purposes, social media, website and all other media releases pertaining to the exhibition.
No image or documentation displayed on this page may be reproduced, communicated or copied (other than for the purposes of research or study; criticism or review, or reporting the news) without the Greek-Australian Cultural League’s permission. Use and referral is allowed for the purposes of research or study so long as full and proper attribution is given. Unauthorised commercial publication or reproduction of any part of this page is specifically prohibited. Contravention is an infringement of the Australian Copyright Act 1968.
